This is a fun read for students to learn about our black holes while adding the fun twist and children's favorite (There Was an Old Lady that Swallowed a fly). This book goes talks about the big things in our universe and the small things all the way down to the smallest parts of matter. 

The book has vibrant fun art work throughout the book that keeps the students engaged. The illustrations are also silly as it brought the universe and the black hole to life by giving them faces!

A fun activity to do with this read is to talk about black holes and what they are and what they can do. You can teach the students about the pull of the black hole but more important create the life cycle of a start !

    This is such a fun idea for a book. I will be adding this to my class list for when we talk about space. I think this blog collection assignment has been so interesting because we all had the same genres for the books, but we all chose such different books. I have learned about so many different books that my students could benefit from in our classroom. The illustrations look so engaging and silly, as the book gives personification to the objects in space.

 Broken Crayons Still Color  By: Tony Collier and Whitney Bak Pictures by: Natalie Vasiliea  I decided to choose this book because it is personally a favorite of mine to read on the first day of school. This book reminds children that it does not matter what color they are , their size , shape or what they look like because broken crayons still write. I like to incorporate an activity by adding broken crayons to each table and have them students draw a picture. I then allow them to draw the same picture with brand new crayon. The students realize that you can not tell  which picture was drawn by what crayons because they all still beautiful. It did not matter what the crayon looked like and together they all can create a beautiful picture. The illustrations throughout the book include children of all different races and backgrounds. The illustrations are filled with eye catching colors and pictures to keel the children engaged while showing the crayons coloring no matter how they look.

  Black is a Rainbow Color By: Angela Joy Illustrated by: Ekua Holmes  Black is a Rainbow color is a beautiful book written as a poem to show children the beautiful things in this world that are black and including those of different skin colors. This book is a great teaching opportunity to show our students that everyone is beautiful and the rainbow is more than just the colors it shows in the sky. Our world is created by all the colors and each color plays an important role in our world. I would include an activity for students to draw a picture using only one and then a picture using all the colors they want. We would talk about how beautiful it is when all the colors are together and what they can create.

  Fantasy   A Bad Case of Stripes  By: David Shannon  Camila is a young g girl in elementary school with a huge love for lima beans. The story takes place in Camila’s house and in her elementary school. Camila is the main character who gets the bad case of stripes but there are also her parents and a doctor and her peers at school. The style of the story is to teach young children about the importance of being yourself. They use lima beans as a metaphor to teach to be true to yourself and not to change yourself for others. I would say this book is a type of fantasy that is real world situations with a few fantasy situations. For    example Camila, being an average elementary school girl with a family is real life and her situation of loving lima beans when others do did not is also real life.
